Poetry Interpretation

"I never thought that I would see myself on stage in front of many people while doing my piece on the poetry interpretation contest".
I was asked by our College secretary to represent our College on the poetry interpretation contest. Actually, I didn’t want to join the contest because I don’t have enough courage to join into such competition. Since, I need some points to earn 10 points in my extra-curricular activities I already grabbed the chance. Otherwise, it was also a big opportunity for me in order to prove to others that mass communication students are talented. Apparently, it was the first time that I would perform on stage alone. Unlike before in our play Romeo and Juliet when I played the role of the Duchess, I was performing with all the casts. At first, I was having my second thought because by the time that I’ll be on stage my nerves would burst out through my veins. However, i still tried conquering my fear on stage. Suddenly, i realized that there's nothing wrong in trying as long as i'm being confident on myself. On the day of the competition, i really got nervous whether i could perform it well or the other contestant might do it better than me. However, I kept in mind that I must need to concentrate and be optimistic on the outcome. Apparently, the funny thing was i was the first contestant to perform my piece on the poetry interpretation. When it was my turn already I was trying to calm myself but I was still shaking. When I started performing in the middle of my piece I stopped for a few seconds as i forgot the next line of the poem. Afterwards, i went on with my piece when i remembered the line. Gradually I ended the last line of the poem confidently. Subsequently, after the poetry category i went out before the program ends and didn't wait for the announcement of the winners.

Unfortunately, i didn't win on the competition but there were no regrets of joining the competition. At least I have proven something to myself that I could conquer my fear and could perform confidently.

Pinoy Media Congress

ABS-CBN sponsored a seminar the Pinoy Media Congress held on November 27 and 28 at Miriam College, Quezon City. It was an overwhelming feeling when i heard that we would be attending a seminar. Whereas, some of the well known media practitioners would give an informative lecture on that day. I was very excited for I'm expecting to learn something new from the event. Unfortunately, i didn't expect that the topic on the seminar was only about the network (ABS-CBN). Supposedly, the topics were about the different mediums of mass media. However, most of the issues were related but then they're not supposed to talk about the network itself. Particularly, in reality I learned few things about what is happenning in media from some of the speakers I enjoyed listening at.

Apparently, there was this one speaker who really caught my attention from the inspiring words she left. It was Ms. Joanna Gomez who says "You should start from the bottom" which encouraged me to continue believing. So, in the future i will become a good mass media communicator . According to Ms. Gomez after she graduated in college she started as a production assistant before she reached her current position as Vice President-Television Productions. I realized based on her experience that it doesn't matter at all whether i start in a lower position as long as I love what i'm doing and have the enthusiasm to reach my goals in life.
On the other hand, there was an incident while one UP professor made Karen Davila irritated. I didn't get exactly the question of the professor but the thought was, why would ABS-CBN air programs that doesn't suggest values. Then, Karen bravely answered that the audience has its power to turn off the televison and the power to choose what programs to watch. Somehow, I agree on that note that if people know already one program which doesn't cater values then they shouldn't be watching it. Besides, it's the viewers choice whether what programs they would like to watch.
However, it is also the responsible of the media outlets to bring information and air programs that feeds values to the audience. Anyhow, Media is still the source of everything. Otherwise, the audience would be easily influenced and be manipulated like what is happenning in reality.
