The Hype of Koreanovelas

Why do Filipinos a big fan of koreanovelas?? Actually, it is a never-ending question that is always been easy for me to answer. Besides, Koreanovelas is not the first to conquer the attention of the Filipinos. Chinovelas first became hype when Meteor garden was first aired in Channel 2, which gained ratings in which so many viewers were watching. Otherwise, chinovelas started invading the Philippine television first until Koreanovelas started appearing on national television. In accordance to the article I read at http://showbizandstyle.inquirer.net/ by Melissa Telan “Pinoy audiences are fed up with soap operas that last for years. They want something they can invest in and at the same time would have a beginning and an ending. Korean dramas fit the bill since they are short enough for viewers to watch the entire run. And since they feature only a few main characters, the audience is able to become involved with them despite their shorter length.” It’s true that teleseryes here in the Philippines is not enticing to watch anymore that I could almost switch the channel and find an interesting one. One more thing is that the teleseryes would take a long time before the story ends and sometimes the scenes were too exaggerated to watch. I think Filipinos were looking for something different in a way they could be more interested that catches their taste in watching teleseryes. It made a big impact to the Filipinos for it had influenced them in terms of food, fashion, values and music.

Apparently, the good thing about Korean dramas is that every scene in the story is exciting and the viewers could easily relate themselves from the story. For instance, the Koreanovela full house that became a hit, which made a mark because of its funny and kilig scenes of Jesi and Justin. I think Filipinos are fond of watching dramas that caters entertainment that amuses them from watching. It is very important that they understand and relate very well to make them feel the realism of the story. In fact, Filipinos were engrossed of the setting in most Korean dramas because of the attractive sights they see. In that way may be they get to travel as well while taking a glimpse of the view by watching koreanovelas. Accordingly, it was also said in the article “Another reason we Pinoys have taken a liking to Korean dramas is the values found in the shows reflect our own.” I strongly agree that the fact that Filipinos could relate on the story of most Korean dramas they get the benefit of learning values. Filipinos get values from koreanovelas for it showcase love and respect of family and value of culture and tradition. These things or values give mark to the Filipinos, that is being kept in mind.
On the other hand, that’s why most of the teleseryes that do appear on primetime are fantasies in which the format is change to catch more attention from the audience. Of course, Philippine drama also caters values although Korean drama has a larger audience. Absolutely, teleserye and fantaserye here in the Philippines are still being appreciated because before Korean dramas invaded us it was the Philippine drama that first catches the mind of the Filipinos.

Well I was also addicted with Koreanovelas because they are entertaining to watch. Most of them has really good story, such as All For Love which caught up my attention to finish the series, because of the swirled up love story between the girl, the guy and another guy. At first I thought it wouldend in a tragedy just like how most Korean novels I had watched then ends. But it was a happy ending and the girl and the guy she loves were married.
Others were like a comedy such as My Girl and Full House. And I like it because it was really funny. Or maybe I just love reading novels on the screen.

i can relate to why Filipinos love koreanovelas. i think it is because it is in the lighter side. the hype of imported novelas, if i remember correctly started from mari mar. from latin, mexican, etc, to Taiwan’s meteor garden now we have the popular koreanovelas. i remember criticizing other people for watching such shows where the audio does not even match the visual, i mean when they talk, it does not even match the movement of their lips. i just started watching when I gained a group of Korean friends who left the country and got me so depressed so i started watching such shows, mainly to learn more about their culture because believe it or not, i got so depressed i even thought of following them and considered studying and working in Korea, (trully influential) haha!

hi jennifer, first i would like to thank you for your time and space in writing soething about my country- the Korean dramas. you know, i was really surprised when i came here and learned that people in the Philippines are alread watching the many Korean dramas which are originally coming from my country. well, the secret why Filipinos love these Korean dramas is that these dramas are really beautiful and realistic. the actors and actresses are also nice in their portrayal to the roles they are playing. last, there are many values which are shown in every scene, that is why \, many Filipinos are also learnign appropriate values from these. well, i hope you will also continue loving these Korean dramas that we have. for that, i am proud to be one of the Koreans in this country.

I can attest how Filipinos are invaded by Koreanovelas cause am one of those who laugh and cries in each scenes. They truly got us hooked but this should be alarming in the Philippine entertainment industry. They should be aware that they are being left behind and should do something about these dilemmas. They can’t just let the Filipino viewers to be gained by Koreans, they must look forward in reigning back the heart of their fellowmen and to support Filipino teleserye, once again.

jel, you know what Iam too addicted to Koreanovelas, because there story does'nt change at the end of the story unlike in our telenovela. Koreanovela do sometimes caters all. You will laugh, cry and feel sad. It really do catches the hearts of the filipino community. Koreanovela di sometimes have this tragedic ending, like Memories in Bali, First you thaught that it has a happy ending but all of the three main character died. so koreanovela has this unique story. :-)

hi jellifer!!!!...i am also a fan of Korea Novela like the Jewel in the Palace, Lovers in Paris, Only You, Princess Hours and many more!!!they always make me feel happy, sorry, mad and so many mixed emotions. Most of the time they showed us many values that a person should have. But then some of the Koreanovelas are so boring like Jumong.
